Singing is known as a “fluency-enhancing condition” in stuttering.
It significantly (~ 90%) reduces the occurrence of stuttering symptoms compared to speaking, and this without prior practice. Although the causes of this impressive effect are not yet sufficiently understood, singing is an activity that has high potential to help individuals who stutter to explore and experience their vocal and verbal production skills in a new light. By administering a widespread survey, we aim to understand the role of singing in the lives of individuals who stutter around the world. The project will underscore the relevance of singing as a culturally and socially important activity for individuals who stutter.
